7/26/2023 0 Comments Akai tapedeck gx 95![]() ![]() This assumes you do basic necessary maintenance - head, transport and pinch roller cleaning using the correct cleaners for each and tape head demagnetization (frequency depending on usage) - also don't be tempted using 30 year old tapes u found in the garage - they can quickly make a mess of your recently cleaned machine-LOL. Fortunately Akai has extremely long lasting tape heads. Their Tape heads are one of if not the longest lasting heads in the industry - their tape head formula creates a very hard but detailed sound set of heads - traditionally a hard or longer lasting head did not sound as good as a softer head - the downside of soft heads is they wear out considerably faster - and since most companies that made tape decks are either out of business or no longer support these tape products - you don't want to invest in a tape deck that either has worn heads (as the heads wear they don't reproduce the higher frequencies and recording sound dull and flat) or if u plan on using it alot, heads that will wear out in a few years. The VU meter bars have both VU and Peak settings and are an early version of this technology but is a high quality fluorescent display with variable intensity.Īkai has a lot of experience with making tape decks from their line of reel to reel dating back to the late 1950s through I think the late 80's and then introducing cassettes in the late 60's through the 90's I believe. This deck has a fantastic tape transport control system the buttons are soft touch, responsive and the logic control allows you to jump from play to rewind to FF without having to hit stop. The tape track selection scanner/finder works well and it has Dolby type B and a MPX filter for recording off FM radio. Once you find the sweet spot for that tape type u can make a note where the bias adjustment knob is set and put it there for every tape of that type - different brands may have a slight difference but u won't notice it if the bias is in the right place. This deck accepts all tape formulas (Type I, II and IV) but does not have automatic bias or automatic tape type selection, you have to set the type and then using test tone, adjust/fine tune the bias for that tape. , of the best sounding and overall best Cassette Decks made - although it can be troublesome - mine had to be factory repaired 2x - now that there is no factory to send to I will attempt my own repair - chassis is small and PCAs are jam packed - difficult to work on.
